If you desire time and space alone, love unique things and appreciate a room full of color and style, consider adopting a southwest bedroom. As we all know, the purpose of our bedroom is to escape the demands of life while enjoying relaxing rest. We all crave a bedroom where we can spend quality time alone and with our partner.

The first step when considering if a southwest bedroom is right for you, is to ask yourself if you find a rustic type of room to be comforting and restful, where the rules of interior design are not sought after, or if a room decorated in a more traditional way with standard styles and colors would suite you better. Southwest decorating is usually considered to be a non-conforming and free style!

There are many different elements to consider when choosing to decorate your bedroom in a southwestern style. When you consider southwestern accents, Native American, Mexican, Spanish and western all work together adding nice touches. Its all about what you like. Choose a southwest feeling that gives you comfort and peace. Each morning, what would you like to open you eyes and see?

There are many options when choosing the style of your southwest room. When you need to decide on the larger furniture, for a more western themed southwest bedroom, you may think about using a heavy black wrought iron bed frame. A winning combination is to introduce bedding that displays a bunkhouse, ranch, cowboy theme.

The increasingly popular Native American style is another southwestern choice. A perfect way to set the tone in the room is with a pine log bed frame. Choose unique bedding that reflects the Indian culture. To give your room a special warm textured look, incorporate the use of hides and furs. For a nice Native American touch to your room, try adding unique artifacts and artwork which contain Indian images and village scenes. Native American heritage should always be respected and shares with us many old legends from past generations. The dream catcher is one of these stories. According to Indian legend, this webbed circle flowing with feathers, hung above one's bed, has the ability to sort dreams, good from bad, and in the morning light, leave the dreamer with only pleasant dreams.

As for the floor in your southwest bedroom, adding a beautifully woven throw rug or runner will bring a creative touch and spark interest. To cut down on noise as well as warm the floor, be sure to use a rug or runner. Compatible colors in a geometric pattern would be a great choice. Using it in this manner, the rug or runner becomes a piece of art decor. Something as simple as a Mexican blanket may also be used on the floor for an unusual look.

The choice of a window covering is a very important step for your southwest bedroom. For restful sleep, light blocking measures should be taken. For a night of great sleep, a good choice would be to use colorful woven draperies that have a blackout backing. The use of mini blinds combined with solid colored sheers can be a success also. Use complementing colors, taking care to match the room's color scheme. Another key element for calming and clearing the mind is the use of a small fountain on a nightstand. Especially important for someone who has trouble falling or staying asleep is the use of a small table top fountain with the gentle flowing sound of water.

The final completing touches that make your southwest bedroom go from ordinary to extraordinary are the accent pieces you use. Match them to your personality and they are sure to bring pleasure and create a sense of relaxation. Incorporate items like a kiva ladder, hand painted hides, wrought iron lighting with rawhide shades, pottery, throw pillows, Native American baskets and art work into your room. Surround yourself with thing you love and be ready to experience a southwest bedroom of your dreams.
